Visclosky Calls On Northwest Indiana to Support Troops As War Begins

Congressman Pete Visclosky released the following statement today in response to the opening of hostilities against Iraq:
 
“Late Wednesday, the brave men and women of our armed forces entered into battle in Iraq.  These courageous Americans, many of them from Northwest Indiana, have put their lives on the line by heeding their country’s call.  It is the duty and the obligation of Americans here at home to support them in every way we can.
 
“Whether we support or oppose the war is an individual decision, and I respect the viewpoints of Americans on both sides of this debate.  But the fact remains that our soldiers are now at war, risking their lives to serve our country.  It is time to unite and stand behind them, and I ask all Northwest Indiana residents to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.
 
"I call upon residents of the First Congressional District to send care packages and letters to our soldiers.  The moral support of Americans at home is crucial to our troops as they face the risks and rigors of war in a faraway land.  I hope that the war will be short, that our casualties will be few, and that our men and women in uniform will know that they have our unflinching support."
