Kentland Municipal Airport Gets Federal Grant
Washington, D.C. – Senators Richard Lugar and Evan Bayh joined Congressman Pete Visclosky today in announcing that the Kentland Municipal Airport has received approval for a $224,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funding will be used to expand the terminal apron, which will allow the airport to provide more parking space for aircraft.
“This grant will improve safety and enhance the economic opportunities that can
come from the airport,” Lugar (R-Ind.) said.
“The expanded apron at Kentland will make parking easier and more available for aircraft,” Bayh (D-Ind.) said. “I am pleased that the Department of Transportation has granted our request and appreciate the efforts of Senator Lugar and Rep. Visclosky.”
“This funding will help the Kentland Municipal Airport serve its community better,” Visclosky (D-Ind.) said. “Expanded parking will provide more options for small aircraft and their pilots, and it will also be a plus for the community. I thank Senator Lugar and Senator Bayh for working with me to help improve airports all across Northwest Indiana.”
Christine Chapman, a grant writer with the Newton County Economic and Community Development office, welcomed the news. In addition to apron expansion, funding will also be used to do some necessary upkeep, including improving lighting.
“We’re very pleased to be able to get the funding and make these improvements,” Chapman said. “It’s hard to find funding for small, municipal airports. This is very welcomed.”
